The MUS-E program at our school!!!
…in the Skills Workshops of First and Fourth Grade!!!
With a positive and creative attitude, and encouraged by Mr. Nikos Efstathiou, Education Consultant, we integrated the MUS-E program “Arts at School” of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation into our school, connecting it with the dissemination and application of the experience we gained from the European Erasmus+ program “Small Actions of Great Value: Our School on the Path to Sustainability.”
We had excellent collaboration both with Mr. Efstathiou and with the Museum of Greek Children’s Art, with the goal of designing and implementing sustainability-oriented Skills Workshops, where class teachers worked together with artists in a creative, experiential, and innovative form of co-teaching.
Naturally, our students showed great enthusiasm, interest, and active participation!!
In First Grade:
As part of the national campaign against childhood obesity—and believing that children’s personal development is significantly strengthened through art and experiential learning—we implemented the Skills Workshop titled “Changing Lifestyle Habits,” aiming to promote behavior changes that prevent childhood obesity through music.
Activities implemented:
- Understanding the purpose of the project: Causes of obesity – Behavioral changes
- Understanding diaphragmatic breathing and its importance
- Creation of four songs related to healthy nutrition, one for each pillar of the national campaign, which we also performed:
- “Yes to Water!!!” – Pillar 1: Water
- “The Five Meals of the Day” – Pillar 2: Breakfast – Healthy snacks
- “Wake Up in the Morning” – Pillar 3: Physical activity
- “Find a Solution” – Pillar 4: Less sedentary time
- Choreography to the song “YES to water!!!” set to music by Loukianos Kilaidonis. For educational purposes, we replaced the lyrics of the original song “Hymn of the Black Dogs” with lyrics related to nutrition.
- Experiential – interactive game: “Slow-moving groups” with musical accompaniment.
Participants: Ioanna Andrianou (teacher), Pavlos Charonis (musician)
In Fourth Grade:
The Skills Workshop “Earth, Climate, Future” was implemented. Its goal was for students to learn about and explore important UNESCO cultural heritage monuments, connect this knowledge to their natural environment, cultivate environmental awareness and respect for natural and cultural heritage, develop creativity through the arts and digital technology, and strengthen their collaboration and communication skills.
Activities implemented:
- Students learned about and studied major UNESCO cultural heritage monuments and related them to their natural surroundings, highlighting how these environments influence their preservation.
- They then painted and creatively represented these monuments in their artwork.
- They created an animation video featuring their own characters, showcasing the connection between humans, nature, and cultural heritage.
Participants: Nerina Vamvakouli (teacher), Theodoros Chiotidis (visual artist)
